Tonight’s a big one! That’s right, a big concert that we have been hyping up a lot over the past month – The Shadows of Knight, a band founded in 1965, will be performing at Black Sheep tonight. The Shadows of Knight were known for their rendition of the Van Morrison song “Gloria” and came out with a few full length albums since they started fifty four years ago. From what it sounds like, even the mayor will be there. Opening acts include Rockford and Tom Irwin.
Things kick off tonight at 7:00 pm. If we had to guess what time The Shadows of Knight take the stage, 8:45 is our best bet (but be sure to come out and catch the opening acts). Admission is $15- if you didn’t pick up a ticket in advance you are still fine coming out and paying at the door! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. And check out our shows page for other shows coming up at Black Sheep right here.
We have a big weekend full of events lined up at Black Sheep! Starting with a comedy and music show tonight – this one marks the return of Central Illinois-based comedy/improv group “The Zoo” who some of you may remember performed here back in May. We are excited to welcome them back. We are fusing this comedy show together with a lineup of more laid back solo acts. This includes the Memphis-based experimental / ambient project “Holly Gallows” whose music you can find on the player below. Did they play at The Radon Lounge at some point? Is that just one guy? Also on the bill is electronic project Imaginary Colours (with Colours being spelled the British way). Before that we have a performance by Kristin Walker (of bands Glower, Moondead, and a few others). Annnd the fourth and final musical act is electronic / new wave artist Eric Marvel.
Yes, all of that is at 7:00 pm and admission will be $7. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.
Thanks to all who came out to the Dumb Records open mic night last night! We’ve got another one lined up tonight- this one’s a normal show at Black Sheep featuring four groups. This includes grunge rock group Master Bastard who released their album Mouth Breather earlier this year and you can find streaming on the player below. Also on the bill is an interesting group you will be sure to want to not miss called “Mr. Magenta” from Edwardsville, Illinois playing some jazz / math rock fusion. Then the hip hop trio and performance group Bermuda Triad is up before them to rock our socks off. Then looks like we have a brand new Springfield band on the bill called “Star Stuff” featuring members of Master Bastard.
This show starts at 7:00 pm and is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.
We hope you all have been having a good weekend – now it’s time to close off the weekend with this Sunday night show at Black Sheep! We can’t remember the last time we saw an event billed as a “metal and rap” show at Black Sheep if it’s ever happened at all, so we are excited for this one to be happening tonight featuring a mixture of half metal and half hip hop. This show features Springfield metal group Eyes From Above (pictured above). They have a new EP being released next month as well. On to the hip hop: we have artist Blakk Rose performing (for the first time at Black Sheep?) You can stream one of Blakk Roses’s songs on the player below. Also on the hip hop end of the spectrum is Nefarious Cloud, a familiar artist to the Black Sheep stage. Robot Army from the metal end will be joining us as well. Then looks like opening things up is a newer metal project from Pekin, Illinois called “Arkham Secrets“. Be sure to come out early to check out what they are all about.
This show starts a little bit earlier at 6:00 pm. Admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to take a look at what else we’ve got lined up at Black Sheep this fall.
That fall weather is out and today and tonight in Springfield, as you may know, there is a lot going on. We had Bruce Williams on our radio program yesterday to talk about The Healing Arts Festival going on at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. There is also a pretty huge show going on over at The Radon Lounge featuring touring artists Ratboys and Knotts, and it is the house venue’s return for this show season. There’s a show going on at Bar None, and even a show at a new Cafe in Edinburg, Illinois!
But we are here to tell you about what we’ve got going on at The Black Sheep tonight (roughly from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm) – It’s a 217 Showcase show featuring plenty of hip hop and R&B from the area! The lineup tonight is as follows:
Brandon Austin Entertainment
Shawn Push Freligh
Alex Whitehurst (YT)
Pretty cool! You can stream some music from Ptych on the player below. Admission tonight is $10, and things start at 7:00 pm. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the coming months.
It’s the weekend! There are a bunch of things going on in town tomorrow night, and we have this show going on here tonight that is likely going to be a very short one. For the 21 and up crowd, there is this show going on at Bar None that will likely start not far off from the time our show gets over with. Believe it or not we hear that it is supposed to be the band Spell Breaker‘s last show or something like that (pictured above). Also on this show is Graveswitcher (is it their tape release or something? we don’t know). Opening things up is a solo set by Mike Butler, and that’s it! Stream Spell Breaker’s music on the player below.
This show will start at 7:00 pm or 7:30 pm and probably literally be over in an hour. Admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.
It’s Monday, but we do have a show happening tonight at Black Sheep! This one features three-piece rock group “Double Grave” from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Check out their newest EP streaming below to hear what they sound like. This show will also feature Springfield’s own home grown noodle rock emo group Bottom Bracket. And friends from Champaign/Urbana, the wonderful Nectar. You know you can’t go wrong with a lineup like that. Opening things up we have a solo set from local musician Kate Laine.
This one starts at 7:00 pm and admission is a nice $6. Check out a facebook event for this show right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this fall.
