You’re invited! This upcoming week on Thursday, December 14th we are having a show featuring just two bands – Bottom Bracket and Stick People. Yes, it’s a birthday party for Cassie Crawford (Garter), but also a show open to the whole wide public world – you don’t have to bring a gift! You might expect to find some refreshments, or maybe some fun games as well (like bobbing for apples or pin the tail on the donkey).
This one starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where we keep a list of everything coming up in Southtown!
This release is a little bit over a month old now, and not exactly from a Springfield band, but we figured it was very much worth noting because it’s another great release recorded in Southtown Sound right behind Dumb Records and Black Sheep. Galesburg heavy sci-fi pop-grunge band TOOMS (featuring members of Rat Storm, Occultonomy, etc) have released their brand new 8-track demo recorded up in the studio. You can check that out streaming on the player below. Also head over to the Tooms bandcamp page to download the songs at your own price.
We only have one event lined up at Black Sheep this weekend, and it is something different from our norm! Back in late summer / early fall when we had a roundtable discussion a lot of you brought up the idea of us hosting workshops, having more guest speakers, etc. in our space. Tonight we will be welcoming Emily Brodt of The Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault to come lead a presentation on consent and sexual assault. She will also be talking about PCASS’s services and more.
If this doesn’t sound like your type of thing, we encourage you just come any hang out anyway! Things start at 6:30 pm, will go until 9:30 pm, and it’s free. Find a facebook event right here. Also check out our shows page for a list of shows happening in Southtown coming up.
Could you believe it, the year 2017 is actually drawing to a close. It’s been a pretty busy year for Springfield music – and we have the new addition of Southtown Sound to thank for a lot of great music being recorded and released in our area. The Studio began recording in March of this year and has worked with a countless amount of bands in Springfield and also all over the country since then.
Once again on this site we would like to highlight some of your favorite releases that came out in Springfield this year. So first we need YOUR help making sure we are covering all of the music that came out this year! Below is everything as far as bands and musicians putting out releases in the year 2017 in our city that we can think of – along with links to stream the music. As of right now we count a total of 54 releases that came out this year. If you were involved in a local release or know of one not on list, please comment below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know!
Once we’ve gathered more of a final list of 2017 releases, we will have a poll go up in about one week on our site where you can tell us your favorite albums, songs, and shows that happened here in Springfield in the year 2017. Then we will highlight your top ten choices for all three categories at the very end of the month. You can check out last year’s (2016) results for shows here, albums here, and songs here. We have also been building an ultimate Springfield album archive / database of Springfield releases over the past year or so on our site which you can check out right here.

We have Springfield punks’ punk band Prowess playing this one as well. Opening things up is the return of Central Illinois – based Magma Diver who recently released their own debut tape. Good job!

Springfield hit pop star and contender on ABC Network TV Show “Boy Band“, Devin Hayes, has dropped a brand new single after having a meet and greet at Pie’s The Limit in town yesterday. You can check out that new single “Nothing Else Matters” right here on iTunes or also stream it in a lyric video embedded below.
Devin also recently got back from a meet and greet tour around the US and to the East coast and back. No Springfield performances are lined up as of right now.
It looks like hit Springfield-based web series highlighting much art and music going on in our area, The Studio Show, have announced they will be back for a third season early next year and we couldn’t be more excited to hear the news. The Studio Show released a short teaser video on their facebook page earlier this month. Let’s see if we can get that embedded at the bottom of this post… On the teaser the date January 30th, 2018 is given for the debut of the third season.
In addition to this announcement, the show also has their first recorded band night planned for Friday, December 8th and is open to the public for a suggested donation of $5. For that the lineup features three local solo performers – Whitney Devine, Kate Laine, and Devin Williams. Find a facebook event for that one right here. We will be sure to keep you all posted as more news on a third seeason of The Studio Show unfolds.
